Ike Turner, the man who turned Tina Turner into a star (and also beat the crap out of her whenever he felt like it), died today at his home in San Diego, CA. He was 76.

Ike Turner must have had some crazy charisma the general public couldn’t see. He proclaimed that he had married 14 times! But there are only four on the public record. That charisma wasn’t enough to keep him out of jail for a drug conviction in the mid-80s however, and when he and Tina Turner were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, he was kestill behind bars. A bit of sweet justice for Tina, I think.
