Charlie Sheen Is One Year Older And Other September 3rd Events

Today is the 22nd wedding anniversary of my mother and step-father. It quite honestly doesn’t feel like that long.

While we were all in Reno for their wedding back in 1989…..

– “Into the Woods” closed at the Martin Beck Theater in New York City after 764 performances

– Iljushin-62 crashed in a residential area of Havana; 170 people died

– Tennis star Chris Evert defeated the then 15-year-old Monica Seles for her 101st (and last) U.S. Tennis Open singles win.

Evert retired from the professional tour in 1989. During her career, she won 157 singles titles and eight doubles titles. Her record in finals was 157–72 (.686). She reached the semifinals in 273 of the 303 tournaments she entered. Evert won the WTA Tour Championships four times and helped the United States win the Fed Cup eight times. Evert’s last match was a 6–3, 6–2 win over Conchita Martínez in the final of the 1989 Fed Cup. [source]

Side Note: The contemporary gift suggestion for the 22nd wedding anniversary is copper.

September 3rd is also Charlie Sheen’s birthday – he turns 45 this year. Here’s hoping he makes it to 46!

Other celebrities celebrating their birthday today are:

Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones (1955)
