Catherine Zeta-Jones Treated For Bipolar Disorder

Now THIS came out of left field.

It has been reported and confirmed that 41-year-old actress Catherine Zeta-Jones checked herself in a mental health facility to seek treatment for a Bipolar disorder. According to reports she entered the Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut last week, at a cost of $1,250 a day. Zeta-Jones has since checked out.

A statement released by Catherine’s rep stated that the problems for which she sought treatment were directly related to her husband Michael Douglas’ recent battle with throat cancer.

“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder…She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.”

A source close to Catherine Zeta-Jones told the National Enquirer that the Welsh actress had an extremely hard time dealing with Douglas’ cancer fight.

“Catherine had a lot of trouble coping [with Douglas’ cancer]. She was chain smoking and drinking…It was tearing Catherine apart to see such a vital man as Michael in such a weakened state… I think she was crumbling.”

I fully support anyone – celebrity or layperson alike – in their effort to seek help for the troubles that plague them. I can tell you from personal life-long experience of dealing with an adult family member with Bipolar, that undergoing professional treatment is extremely important. And quite possibly life-saving.
